EAR SKIN COVERAGE WITH TEMPORALIS FASCIA ISLAND FLAP

Abstract
The occasional unavilabilities of healthy normal skin around the ear have been the problem for ear skin coverage. Those are burned ear, trauma and large tumor involving the ear and its surrounding tissues. Recently, several attempts have been made to overcome this problem. For this purpose, they use temporalis fascia, pericranium, gelea and myocervical flap etc.. We experienced one case of auricle skin coverage with temporalis fascia island flap based on the superficial temporal vessel after removal of congenital giant cerebriform nevus. The nevus was so large that it covers almost left half of the neck and scalp and total ear, measures about 35cm x 25cm x 1.5cm in size in a 27 year old male patient. It shows brownish black gylated- convoluted surface and raised well defined margin with normal hair growth on the scalp. Especially, the thick nevus on the ear makes the ear look like a macrotia which is cosmetically very unacceptable.
